HISTORY of O''''''''Henry''''''''s Go Go
In November 1927, Adelard T. (A.T.) and Emma E. Belair and their two children, Henry and Lorene (ages 5 and 9), came to Kennewick from Prosser, WA. They purchased the Haas Bakery, (later renamed Belairs Bakery, then Kennewick Baking Co.) The bakery grew from a small wholesale and retail outlet to a large distributor of bakery products with a daily output of approximately 5.000 loaves per day during the war years of 1941-45. In 1946, Henry Belair, after service in the Navy, returned to the bakery, bringing his wife Jeanne and infant son Roger. Two other sons were born--Randal in 1949 and Ronald in 1955. All three sons now live in Seattle.
After A.T.''''''''s death in 1955, business management fell to Henry, eventually converting to strictly retail sales. On Emma''''''''s death in 1963, Henry and Jeanne assumed ownership. The bakery image finally gave way to one of a restaurant, including a name change to OHenry''''''''s. Specialties ranging from OHenry''''''''s big, juicy burgers, deli sandwiches, homemade soups and pies (reminder of the bakery days), to Aunt Eda''''''''s Chili are offered in a quaint American decor. Memories of the good ole days remain prevalent amidst the exhibits which range from WWII clippings and mementos, to various class pictures of former Kennewick High School graduates, as well as those of many old and current celebrities. In 1983 OHenry added our garden court--outdoor dining in a garden atmosphere. Then in 1984 we really became famous with our over 60 go-go girls. A fun idea that caught national to world-wide attention--from CBS Morning News to the prestigious Wall Street Journal, Paul Harvey and then the World Wide Stars & Stripes --Henry Belair''''''''s go-go girls were a hot news item!
A few years ago OHenry''''''''s was purchased by Josie, the owner and chef at King & I Thai on Clearwater. Josie has stayed true to what Henry had created still serving up the traditional delicious burgers, sandwiches, homemade soups and hot breakfast. Josie added to the menu some of her Asian background offering a new Asian Fusion menu to satisfy a more diverse palate. Josie also began serving a variety of local Washingtion wines and microbrews, and now offers catering services asx well.Vegitarian Options: No

A true hometown diner - 02/19/2010 13:19:08

Honestly, this place is far from fancy. The food they make though is fantastic and absolutely makes up for anything lacking. Very personal place, and I love supporting local businesses. You order your food at the counter, and are able to watch them cook it right there if you''''d like. Then, just sit down and wait to eat! This place also has a quaint little outdoor eating area also perfect in the Spring, Summer and Fall, love it!

O'Henry's is located in old town Kennewick.... in an old brick building off 1st Ave. The walls inside are covered with various Kennewick High School Class pictures from 1940's thru the 1950's. It almost feels like an ice cream parlor from the 1950's with it's black & white linoleum tile floors and round tables and chairs. They also have an outdoor shaded patio that looks very inviting during the summers. They are to 3:00 PM. Breakfast is always served. They offer standard lunch menu of burgers, and various sandwiches both hot & cold. My wife had a patty melt with potato chips and thought it was very good. I had grilled corn beef & turkey with melted swiss and grilled onions on rye bread with potato chips. It was a "triple decker" for. It was very rich and tasty. We ordered a bottle of Columbia Crest Two Vine Merlot. They served the wine in champagne flutes.... I requested & got larger wine glasses....... I can now say that we have eaten at O'Henry's Go Go... it is a "must visit" to appreciate the history of Kennewick. We will be back for breakfast.
